WHCC’s 3rd XI has capped off a highly successful year with the award of league runners up in the Fuller’s Surrey County League. The award, presented at the annual dinner in November, represents the best finish for the team for over ten years and means that the side will now be promoted for next season into the Surrey Championship. In addition to the league pennant, WHCC also received the 'Club of the Month' award for June from the Fuller’s Surrey County League for the side's excellent performance on the field.

Steve Werrnberg, WHCC club secretary and 4th XI captain was on hand recently to collect the league winners title on behalf of our victorious 4th XI. The awards ceremony was held at the recent Surrey Championship Annual Awards Dinner where former England and Lancashire opening batsman Graham Fowler presented the trophies.

Well done once again to our 4th XI and we wish them the best of luck in continuing their great successes next year.

Woking and Horsell Cricket Club, where Dave Le Brocq has been actively involved for a number of years, has been able to provide shirts for next year's Colts thanks to the help from ExxonMobil.

Dave, who works for Esso, successfully applied for a grant from the ExxonMobil Volunteer Involvement Programme, which recognises the contributions of time and energy made to local community groups. The programme is open to ExxonMobil employees and their families.

WHCC would like to sincerely thank Esso/ExxonMobil for their generosity and look forward to an ongoing and successful partnership.

W&HCC enjoyed a highly successful 2010 season - the best in the club's history.

For most Saturdays of the season, W&H has fielded 5 senior teams - the first time for many seasons this has been achieved. The 1st, 3rd and 4th XI all achieved promotion from their respective leagues and the 2nd XI were just below the promotion spots in 3rd place.

The 1st XI missed out narrowly, by one point, on being crowned champions. Their 4 run defeat on the last Saturday of the 2010 season allowed Addiscombe to sneak past the W&H team, which had led the table for most of the season. Despite this, 2010 has been a successful year and skipper Ryan Pogson achieved his objective and is delighted with promotion. A further positive for the club is that this was achieved without an overseas player this year - a big achievement. The 2nd XI was in a rebuilding year and skipper Roger (Bus Pass) White helped to bring the average age up to 25! This bodes well for the years to come as does the fact that the U17 squad won the West Surrey Youth Cricket League title.

The 3rd XI will return to the Surrey Championship next season thanks to a well deserved 2nd place finish in the Fullers Surrey County League, whilst the 4th XI bounced back from last season's disappointments to lose only 1 game in winning the West Division of the Surrey Championship 4th XI league. The 5th XI played friendly matches, introduced a lot of youngsters to adult cricket and enjoyed their season immensely. As normal, Sunday friendlies have provided a mix of friendly, but competitive cricket and, weather permitting, there are still 3 matches to go before the season draws to a close.

The successes were celebrated in style at Brewery Road on Saturday 4th September. The Clubman of the year was presented to Anthea Dickson in recognition of the huge effort she has put in running the bar on colts' evenings, organising the colts' social committee, organising Family Day, running the BBQ etc!! Thanks Anthea - we all appreciate it!

The main award winners for 2010 are

Players of the Season

1st XI - Tom Dunbar

2nd XI - John Hargan

3rd XI - Craig Schlebusch

Sunday XI - Jamie Williams

Batting Award - Jamie Williams

Tony Cooper Young Player of the Year - Henri Peters

Thanks to a watchful 80 not out against Surrey Cryptics on Sunday, Jamie Williams passed the milestone of 1000 runs for the 2010 season. Jamie, the Sunday XI player of the season, has scored 3 tons and 5 half-centuries during his 31 knocks this summer. He averaged 36.1 for the season. All at W&HCC congratulate Jamie in this feat and look forward to a similarly productive season next year!! Well done Jamie.
