Woking and Horsell CC under 13’s fought their way through the league section of the Ray Denne cup unbeaten, defeating Horsley and Send, East Molesey, Walton and Stoke D’abernon to reach to the final against Windsor at Egham Cricket ground on 13th September.
Woking and Horsell lost the toss and Windsor decided to bat first. Woking and Horsell opening bowlers Jamie Ludlow and Omar Khan bowled accurately and aggressively and Windsor found it very difficult to score and after 5 overs had only scored 12 runs. In the sixth over Omar Khan caught and bowled one of the Windsor openers.
This bought the Windsor batsmen Parsons to the wicket who immediately set about Woking’s attack increasing the run rate to over six per over until the other opener’s wicket fell to Alex McColl’s bowling with a good catch from Stefano Artusa. Parson went on to reach his 50, but lacked support from the other end and further wickets fell with a caught and bowled by Mat Ming and Jamie Ludlow came back on to take a wicket with a catch by the wicket keeper Jamie Dickson who also achieved a run out. Windsor reached a score of 116 from their 20 overs mainly due to Parson’s excellent innings. Besides the wicket takers there were excellent bowling spells from Ben Zakaria and Will Pyle, who helped considerably in restricting Windsor’s score.
Woking’s opening batsmen Ben Zakaria and Angus Hargan started well and looked in control and were always up with the 6 runs per over required however 13 proved unlucky for Ben who was caught and bowled for this figure.
Angus was joined at the wicket by Mat Ming and both started to pile on the runs with a succession of boundaries with little help from Windsor conceding a number of no balls and wides finally Woking won in 13th Over with Angus Hargan unbeaten on 47 and Mat Ming on 21.
Woking’s man of the match award went to Jamie Ludlow with the very creditable bowling figures from 4 overs conceding only 5 runs and taking a wicket.
Thanks to Egham CC for organizing this excellent event.
This is a well deserved end to a good season for W&H under 13s – Congratulations to all the boys who played in the Ray Denne Cup this season.
