This year’s Woking and Horsell Cricket Club AGM will take place on Thursday 7 November at 8.00.

The Annual AGM is one of the most important events of the year. The AGM discusses and decides the fundamentals for the 2020 cricket season. Anything from nominating new captains, committee members, playing requirements, the pitch, finances and subscriptions to name just a few items. This year it takes on increased importance as we are dealing with the resignations of a number of key committee members as you will probably know. Our Chairman, Peter Smith, and our Secretary, Trevor Woods, have both taken the decision to step down after many years of fantastic service and we thank them both for all their hours of hard work.

We are looking to increase the number of volunteers in 2020 by breaking down some of the main committee roles into sub-committee roles. Some of you have volunteered to help out already and thank you very much for that, however, we need more help. If you can assist, even if is just for a couple of hours a week, then please contact Andrew Murphy.

Come to the AGM let's hear your voice and let's make a difference to this great club. Please do not leave it to others as there is only so much the few can do.

As some of you will know both our long standing Chairman Peter Smith and our Secretary Trevor Woods have resigned from their positions following several years of outstanding service. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their tireless hard work over the years. We would also like to thank our Welfare Officer Helen Smith whose outstanding work in 2018 and 2019 deservedly won her the Clubperson of the Year Award. Helen has also taken the decision to step down from her role.

We, therefore, face some significant challenges in 2019/2020 to re-build our Committee to deal with the huge amount of work that it takes to run a cricket club of our size. We need your help urgently.

Not everybody necessarily has ten hours a week that maybe required to hold one of our key Committee positions so we are diving each role into a series of tasks so that every club member can get involved from ordering club kit, meeting and greeting new players at nets, running a social event, updating the website, cutting the outfield to painting the clubhouse. The list is virtually endless. We need help with the following:

Fundraising
Social events
Building and House
Cricket
Running the bar
Helping cut the outfield

We need your help more than ever so if you can spare an hour or two a week to help out your club or even if you can help with a certain event then please do let This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. know as soon as possible. Thank you.

On Saturday 7 September we will be holding the eleventh annual Woking and Horsell awards, following our final league games, to celebrate the good, the sublime and the downright awful that neatly sums up a W&HCC season, particularly this one. As is usual, we have had plenty of all three this year and there has been lots of discussion as to who will win what.

We will be presenting a Player of the Year for each of our five teams as well as Batsman, Bowler, Fielder, Young Player and Clubperson of the year so there is much to play for as we enter the last couple of league games this season.

We will also be presenting many other awards to those whose season may not have hit the dizzy heights of those winning official awards. Injury of the Year and Most Ducks is a pretty close run thing this season!

The event will be held at the club as soon as is possible after our final league games, bearing in mind the first team are at Streatham, so please get back to the club as soon as you can.

This is always an extremely popular and well attended event so make sure you get it booked in your diary as soon as possible. You never know, you may win something! We hope you can make it.

This weekend is an important one for the club as both the 1st XI and 2nd XI face big games in their battle against relegation. The first team host Old Hamptonians with the twos taking the short trip to Ashford. Please do come down and support the boys.

The Brewery Road bar will be open from 2pm for the 1st XI game and will be showing the rugby.

Our annual Drink the Fridge event, where we attempt to drink the fridge dry, will start at 5pm with promotional prices on offer.

We will also be running a BBQ later in the evening.

We have five teams out for the first time this season, with an interclub game at Westfield, so let’s have an enjoyable day!
