On a blisteringly hot Sunday afternoon, it was great to see so many people at W&H for the family day.

The young ones had a cricket tournament of their own, whilst the adults and older juniors held a 10/10 tournament. With most of the participants getting far too much sun, the cricket seemed to be enjoyed by all.

Notable incidents in the adult game included a reverse scoop for 6 from Jack Allen, some 1st XI fileding lapses and the return of Ferrari, who entertained all with the longest over of the day!

On behalf of the Committee, a big thank you to all who took part and to those who donated raffle prizes.

As always a number of volunteers manned the bar, bbq and helped organise the event. Once again, a huge thank you is due to all of them.

Another dry weekend saw the last of the pre-season games before league cricket starts on Saturday 7th May. On Saturday 1s and 2s took on near neighbours Chertsey in our traditional friendly double header.

The 1st XI won a low scoring encounter at Brewery Road by 4 wickets. The ground looked a real picture and good performances by Bilal Mir, Liam Monaghan and Conor Dean saw W&H home. Bilal's 24 not out added to his 3-7 with the ball made it a good day for him.

The 2nd XI had a good win away, scoring 270. Doug Newton got his first jug in following a nice 77 and skipper JW decided to avoid the jug by giving it away on 48. Wickets were shared around with Fasli Hadi getting 3 on his W&H debut.

In the inter-club game at Winston Churchill School, Murphy's Magicians were out-muscled by Wernberg's warriors. Good to see Umair holding the bat again for the first time since last summer. He played himself in as normal by hitting a 6 over square leg 1st ball.

Sunday saw a win and a loss. The Sunday 1s lost in the last over at Crondall. Crondall winning with 6 wickets in hand. Good performances with the bat by Liam (67) and Conor (56) took W&H to 196. However some wayward bowling allowed Crondall to remain in control and despite some tight stuff from Liam and Jak at the end, they had too much in hand. Good game though and a really nice fixture.

The 2s entertained Old Woking 2s, who got off to a flyer. However, the wheels fell off a bit and young Qasim took an excellent 3 for to restrict the visitors to 152. W&H got the runs in a good chase - Sagar with another good 42 and Jack Allen continuing his good start to the season with an excellent 57 - he must like buying beer! His dad and gran came to watch - must have been good viewing!

Towards the end of last season WHCC colts put out an appeal for cricket kit to support the Masaka Cricket pilot project. A number of families responded with donations and these were passed on via John Matthews to the project. We have received word back that the kit was very well received. A message from the coordinator is below. Thanks to all those who donated.

The pictures show the Headmistress of Kimanya Blessed Sacrament Secondary School in Masaka, Uganda, Mrs J Kabanda,  receiving donated equipment from myself and two local members of the Masaka Cricket pilot project. Schools were closed for Christmas at that time so there were no students to try out the equipment.

The two gentlemen in the pictures are part of our team on the ground and will organise and oversee the initial clinics and distribution of further equipment. I hope to receive more pictures from them especially when the children get back.

On behalf of us all I convey the most sincere  gratitude to you and Woking & Horsell for the enthusiastic support you have given the project from the beginning.
