News

UPDATED 12 JUNE 2020

The nets at our Brewery Road ground are now open for booking.

It is important everyone reads the attached guidelines the ECB have announced before booking their net session.

What this note intends to do is inform you all about how the net facilities can be used by our members as we are required by the guidelines to introduce a booking system to stop any potential over-crowding and breaches of the social distancing requirements.

The clubhouse will remain closed for the time-being but the nets will be open subject to the guidelines and rules below. To gain access you must use the gate at the front of the clubhouse and not climb over the gate on the far side. The front gate has a combination lock on it. When you book a session you will be sent the code.

AVAILABILITY

The nets & the grounds will only be accessible and available to use for WHCC members. Members of the public are not allowed within the ground and notices to this effect will be displayed at entrances.

If you have kindly paid your 2020 membership already then please see below the method with which to book the nets.

Chairman - May 2020

I hope that you are all staying well and coping with the challenges of Covid-19. Here is the latest update on the how we are managing the impact on our club and how you can help.

While we would normally be looking forward to starting the league season next weekend, both seniors and colts, like all other sports clubs across the country, we have had to close and unfortunately there is no certainty over when we will be able to open again. We are hoping to play some cricket during the summer and are keeping Brewery Road "cricket ready" for when the opportunity arises.

https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gifWe are pleased to say that subsequent to previous communications, a lot of further work has been carried out by the Committee to help reduce the financial impact on the club and reduce it's monthly overheads where we can. While we have had some welcome success in accessing grants from Woking Borough Council, further grants are very unlikely in the near future and we need to keep our emergency funds in place to protect us, cover our monthly outgoings, and maintain key machinery to keep the ground in good shape. On top of this, all non-essential purchases / project costs have been put on hold for the time-being.

The one thing we do know is that the strongest clubs in terms of finances and membership will be best placed to ride out these extraordinary times and come out the other end ready to progress and we want WHCC to be one of those. The Committee is doing all it can to understand and mitigate the issues resulting on our club from Covid-19. Our club members have a role to play now and in the future, so please support the initiatives, fund raising and the great work being done.

While we understand a number of our members are likely to have been impacted financially by this crisis, we would still like to encourage payment of subs, albeit on a reduced basis.

An email will be sent to all senior members in this regard shortly.

Thank you once again to you all for your support and when we have further updates we will notify you.

Chairman - May 2020

As a cricket club, we are following advice from the Government, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Surrey Cricket Foundation regarding guidance and instructions.

As many of you will know, we have been told by the ECB that all forms of cricket activity - from indoor and outdoor training to matches and social gatherings - have been suspended until further notice. We will continue to follow advice issued and will keep you informed of any decisions along the way.

No-one has experienced anything like this before but, rest assured, as and when playing cricket looks like a possibility, we will do everything we can to make up for lost time. We will continue to keep the ground in good order and work on the square will continue in preparation for hopefully playing at some point this season.

In terms of the financial impact to the club, the committee have spent a lot of time recently working on a financial plan for a number of scenarios given that our income stream will be severely impacted. We will communicate our plans in the not too distant future.

In the meantime, we hope you, your friends and loved ones remain safe.

WHCC Committee

We are delighted to announce that the club has recently agreed a 3 year seniors shirt sponsorship deal with Seymours estate agents in Horsell.

Having been one of our sponsors for a number of years, Seymours have kindly agreed to support the club further to include shirt sponsorship. The new shirts can be seen being worn by a couple of our in-house models.

The first branch of Seymours opened in 1992 with the Horsell branch opening in 2012 and is owned and run by their partner Lloyd Moss. In addition to sponsoring our club, they also sponsor Horsell Bowling Club and The Woking Sam Beare Hospice as well as other local community events.

Over the years, the club has been fortunate to have had many loyal and local sponsors, 'Partners Within The Community' as we prefer to call them, and we are delighted that such a well known local business have agreed to continue and expand their partnership with us.

For the 2020 season our kit will be provided  by Serious Cricket. This is the widest range of kit we have ever had from new playing shirts, to hoodies, jackets, and gilets for both players and supporters.

The Woking and Horsell shop at Serious Cricket is now open and a 20% discount is available for a short period.

The code to order any items online is now live for 20% discount through to the end of February - WHCC20NEW – and can be redeemed at checkout.

Kit will be delivered directly to you.

If you want to see some examples of the new kit before you buy then there will be some at nets tomorrow.

If you have any questions please contact Phill West.
